New to Texas – Great Ways to Meet New People

So you have just moved into your new home or apartment in Texas, now what?

It can be so overwhelming moving to a new city, especially a city as large as Dallas, Austin or San Antonio. The terrifying feeling can also be escalated to new heights if you’re moving to place where you don’t know anyone. However, if you know the right places to go in order to meet new people the transition into your new life can be a breeze. The list below is a compilation of ways to meet new people.

Prior to moving, find a place you want to live, search apartments in Austin, Houston, Dallas that are near attractions that you would enjoy doing.

For example, if you’re into college sports you could find an apartment or house close to the University of Texas and go to the college games. There would be hundreds of people at each of those events that would share a common interest so it would be easy to spark up a conversation, especially in that type of atmosphere. However, if living near the college would be a bit much and isn’t really your scene, you could try a quieter part of town close to the Austin Theatre or the Bob Bullock TX history museum. Just make sure you’re going to be living close to some activities that will enjoy so you don’t have to commute across town to do what you enjoy.

Visit 6th Street - One of the hottest spots in Austin is the famous 6th Street. 6th Street has an abundance of live music, great food, relaxing pubs, plenty of retail locations, great bars, and even some art galleries. If you’re into live music you could go visit the Alamo Drafthouse, Friends, or Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar.

Going to this type of atmosphere might make it easier to strike up a conversation with the person sitting next to you. You could also go visit one of the many restaurants on 6th Street such as Buffalo Billiards, Cedar Door, or Guero’s Taco Bar. 6th Street is always active with locals as well as visitors from out of town. If you’re looking for a very active place or a very active nightlife then going to 6th Street would definitely put you in a good position to meet many new people.

Join a social group - There are groups you could join that their primary focus is getting people together to socialize to help people meet new people. A good example of this would be meetup.com. This is a free to join group that’s primary focus is to provide a fun non-pickup social environment for people to enjoy. This particular group is free to join and would be a great way to help someone new to the area meet new people and get involved in some fun activities.

Join a Gym - If you’re into fitness and having an active lifestyle then joining a gym would be a great place to meet new people in any City where you don’t know anyone. There’s a great selection of gym’s to choose from in the major cities so it would be fairly easy to choose one that would suit your needs. By putting yourself in an atmosphere that you enjoy and have a common interest with other people in the gym would make it much easier to meet people than just trying to talk to some random person walking down the street. Also, if you have a consistent workout schedule you would likely see some of the same faces on a regular basis which would allow for an easier way to meet new people.

These are all great starting ways to meet new people in your new city. The only way you are going to meet new people and make lifetime friends is to get off the couch and get out on the town, following your interests of course.
